I WAS ALMOST DONE WITH THIS

January 28 - March 8

The Facts
AND WHEN I LOGGED IN TO FINISH, MY WORK WAS GONE. Now, I'm mad. 😑😣 Here's the shorter version... with mostly pictures since I don't remember all the words I originally used. 😒😭

Our dear friend and summertime travel companion, Lisa, came to visit for a weekend. Whenever we're together, there's baked goods, little free libraries, coffee, and LOTS of walking. Sometimes there's tattoos involved too, but not on this trip. We checked out several local shops-- and this confirmed for me, once again, that we currently live in a pretty cool area.

We ditched Lisa twice while she was visiting to do things that we already had planned. 😬 (She's probably our most flexible and independent friend. Everyone needs a Lisa). One night, it was to see the Louisville Orchestra perform Star Wars Live.

Another picture of Iris for good measure.

We spent Valentine's Day at Skyline Chili. It was fancy.

How cute is he? He's thinking about that Cincinnati style chili.

Lyndsey and BJ came to visit for a weekend too! How we've managed to make (and keep!) such great friends, I'll never know. We checked out the Frazier Museum and played cards and talked and walked and tried Martin's BBQ and introduced them to our favorite brunch place (Wild Eggs) and had coffee and all the things! Unfortunately for the Frazier Museum, we've been spoiled by living near the Henry Ford for 5+ years and nothing can really compare to that. Also, thank you for taking so many pictures, Lyndsey!

This is how many types of bourbon we've tried. Since this picture was taken, we're now all the way up to 2.

"Eat your heart out, Frazier Museum." -The Henry Ford, probably
I'd like to go here again.

Who raised this cat?

OF COURSE THIS IS A PORTLANDIA REFERENCE. OF COURSE. DO YOU KNOW US AT ALL?

I bought Risk as a birthday present for Joey and we played with one of his coworkers at Heroes. There were other games that I have no desire to ever participate in being played at the numerous tables around us. I sent this picture to Lauren with a text that said, "If I hear the word 'invisibility' one more time..."
My face when Joey takes me to Heroes to play Risk.
I think the only new restaurant we tried in Louisville during this time (besides Martin's BBQ) was Impellizzeri's Pizza. I'd get it again.

This last picture is just a random throwback from October 2018 when we first started moving our stuff into the storage unit. We rode the tandem bike there and picked up the moving truck to drive back to the house. It was rainy and people were taking videos of us and it was actually really fun. Riding the tandem makes me feel the same way riding in Joey's Dart does-- kind of embarrassed, but also kind of cool. I like standing out, but only if it's for something weird-- like riding a tandem bike on Schaefer Road or getting out of a hideous orange vehicle in a crowded parking lot.

We also made a quick trip to Joliet to help prep the house for recovery after mom's surgery. She's getting a tumor removed in early April (more on that under the Requests section of this post) and I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to make the post-surgery process easier. Mostly, I just purged/organized things in the basement which I found very relaxing.

We had family dinner at DA's. I'd never been there before, but I could see why my family likes it. The food was tasty and the staff was delightful. If you're in Joliet, you should try it. We also tried Uncle Julio's for the first time. Joey got to break the dessert piΓ±ata.

We watched Bohemian Rhapsody. This resulted in an attempt to come up with a Queen song for each of the numbers on the Enneagram. Help was provided by Two (aka Lauren) and Seven (aka Kendra). πŸ˜

The Feelings
Mostly, I'm just feeling frustration at the moment--why did all my words have to disappear? Outside of that, these past few weeks have been a mix of content and happy with a smidge of exhaustion. I love my care-giving job, but it's emotionally, mentally, and physically tiring. As you already know, Joey's job is particularly exhausting too.

The Requests
Continue to pray for Joey as he works unpredictable hours and is bombarded with stressful emails and calls almost every day-- even on the weekends.
Give thanks to God with me for providing wonderful coworkers at a job that I am enjoying more and more the longer I'm there. How rare is that?
My mom is having surgery to remove a benign brain tumor on April 2. I think it's safe to say that we are all experiencing mixed emotions about it. The mantra that keeps playing through my head is, "It's not cancer, but it is a brain tumor." The situation could be so much worse and we're all grateful that it's not, but there is a TUMOR slowly growing in her brain. It's serious, but can be taken care of. It's nerve-wracking, but not completely terrifying. We're trusting God to work it all out (which I know is a typical Christiany thing to say, but it's true. There's literally nothing else we can do besides trust that God knows what He's doing-- so... here we are). She is sharing more details on her Facebook page if you'd like additional info.

A word from Joey: At Friday night dinner with my family in Joliet, my favorite cousin, Courtney, commented on the reemergence of the Jonas Brothers.
Courtney (paraphrased): I've been seeing memes about being a Joe girl vs. being a Nick girl and thought 'What about my cousin the Kevin* girl?'
Joey: I'm a Joe Nick guy.

*Kevin is notoriously the least popular and was my favorite back in the day...and knowing now that I'm an Enneagram 4, is anyone really surprised?
